Halftime

Halftime

It is very important to take some time to analyze your results for the first half of the year. Where do you stand on your goals? Are you on track? Ahead or behind? One of the keys to accomplishing goals is to constantly measure your progress and make adjustments as needed. The same way a spaceship or airplane is always making adjustments on its route to their final destination, you also need to make adjustments in what you are doing.

Paul J. Meyer said, “If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you will keep getting what you’ve always gotten.”

If you’re not on track or ahead of your goals, then it’s vitally important that you don’t just continue to do exactly the same things that you were doing during the first few months. You must make changes and adjustments. Albert Einstein famously said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting a different result.”

The real question to ask your self is, “Am I living in the past or in the future?” You see, our lives pretty much unfold according to our beliefs and expectations. If we don’t have very clear goals for our future, then our subconscious expectations are that we will continue on the same path we have been on – in other words we are just repeating our past over and over. The only way to break this pattern and create a different future is through very clear goals. We must know exactly how we want the future to be different, and exactly what we will do differently to make that future a reality. Then we must back up our new goals with specific affirmations and visualizations of our new goal. When we do this, we completely change our subconscious beliefs and expectations of what our future will be. We are then freed to fulfil these new expectations.

You see, goal setting is not only a planning strategy, but also a “prophecy strategy.” Our beliefs and expectations are really self-fulfilling prophecies. If we don’t clearly define the self-fulfilling prophecy we want, by default we adopt our past as our future destiny. Our future just becomes an endless extension of the past. Paraphrasing a Chinese proverb about planting a tree, the best time to change your future was 20 years ago, the second best time is right now. Today. This very hour.

Take control of your future and by taking control of your expectations. Start by setting crystal clear goals for the second half of 2024. Next, identify the specific actions you will take to achieve your goals. Then create simple affirmations and visualizations of your goal being accomplished. Repeat these affirmations and visualizations every day. You will be amazed by the power of having your own self-fulfilling prophecy!
